New banknotes and coins released on Monday by Bank Indonesia (BI) have enhanced security features aimed to prevent counterfeiting, the central bank governor has said. The new banknotes had nine to 12 security elements, some that were visible to the naked eye and others that were not.
“For the Rp 100,000 [US$7.50) banknotes, there are 12 security features, which can be seen from the color, ultraviolet marks, thread and the recto and verso,” he said during an event on the issuance of the new banknotes and coins. During the event, President Joko Widodo or “Jokowi” also asserted the importance of the improved security features.
On Monday, the central bank officially issued and circulated seven new banknotes and four coins, which depict the pictures of national heroes, traditional dances and natural sites. The new notes are the Rp 100,000, Rp 50,000, Rp 20,000, Rp 10,000, Rp 5,000 and Rp 2,000 and Rp 1,000, while the new coins are Rp 1,000, Rp 500, Rp 200 and Rp 100.

IDR 50,000 denomination dominated by blue color, in the new design a fraction showing national hero Ir Juanda Kartawidjaja. In the old design, the images that adorn these fractions is I Gusti Ngurah Rai. Meanwhile, on the back there is an image of a Balinese Legong with the background landscape of Komodo Island.
These denominations keep predominantly green color with displaying national hero GSSJ Ratulangi. At the shards of old designs, the hero shown is Otto Iskandardinata. At the rear there is a picture of Dayak Dance Gong against the background of natural scenery Derawan, East Kalimantan.
Fractions predominantly purple color is displayed with the image heroes of Papua, Frans Kaisiepo, and on the back of the picture there Pakarena Dance of South Sulawesi and the Wakatobi National Park landscapes and Cempaka Flowers Forest.
Fractions predominantly brown color is displayed with the image of national hero KH Idham and on the back of the picture there Gambyong dancers, natural scenery of Mount Bromo, and tuberose flower.
In fractions predominantly gray color is an image of national hero Moehammad Hoesni Thamrin. Meanwhile, at the back of the picture there Piring Dance from West Sumatera, and the natural landscape of the canyon Sianok and Jeumpa Flower
In fractions predominantly green color is an image of the heroine of Aceh, Tjut Meutia. At the rear there Tifa dance image of Papua and Maluku Tenggara and landscapes Banda Neira and orchids Larat.
In addition to banknotes, the central bank also issued coins, in denominations of Rp 1,000, the hero of the Bali shown, that I Gusti Ketut Pudja. As in denominations of Rp 500 has an image of Lt. Gen. TB Simatupang. In denominations of Rp 200 has an image of national hero Dr. Tjiptomangunkusumo, and at USD 100 an image of Prof. Dr. Herman Johannes who is also rector of Gadjah Mada University from 1961 to 1966.
